Bay Tutu Trophy comes to Ahipara for first time

The annual club AGM and prizegiving was held on Saturday 31 August with a good crowd gathered at the Golf Club to celebrate our 2023-24 season winners and enjoy some amazing kai together.

The AGM went smoothly with all committee members re-standing for another year. The club's finances are in good shape despite being slightly down on memberships last year, and having some big one-off bills to pay such as the weigh station refurb. Treasurer Rob has also made a good start with the new club constitution to align with new incorporated society rules and this will be voted on at the next AGM.

Recorder and Publicity officer Helen proposed a new winter snapper comp with the same format as the Gallagher Kingi comp, running from 1 July to 30 September. The club is keen to hear from anyone who would like to become the naming sponsor for this new comp from next year.

Vice President Tatz kindly MC'd the evening in his usual energetic style and all trophy and prize winners were applauded for their efforts last season. In particular Mark Hopkins and his crew who made the trip all the way up from the Manukau to receive not only the AGC heaviest stripy trophy, but also the illustrious Bay Tutu trophy - the Northern clubs heaviest striped marlin trophy - the first time in its history the trophy has come to Ahipara, since it was introduced in 1960.

New member Quin Tararwa was also welcomed and congratulated for his national champion Bass, which also won him the AGC's most meritorious catch trophy.
